RECOVERY CHAMPIONS

Project Aims

‘The Recovery Champions’ is a brand new Enactus Reading student led project starting in September 2015. We have partnered up with an institution called IRiS Reading who provides adult alcohol & drug treatment and recovery services within the Reading Borough; IRiS Reading’s vision is to beat alcohol and drug addiction. Their mission is to:

 - Change the lives of those affected by alcohol and drugs; helping them realise their potential and giving them a fresh start.

 - Rebuild lives and communities affected by alcohol and drugs.

The aim of ‘The Recovery Champions’ project is to provide various therapies to the service users at IRiS with the ultimate goal of bringing new skills, fresh perspectives and an overall enjoyable experience to each and every service user at IRiS. Our number one priorities for September 2015 are Art Therapy and Creative Writing, but we would also like to move forward and set up additional therapies in the months to come such as Self-Expression workshops, as well as an IRiS Football team if the others prove to be successful.

Project History

Although ‘The Recovery Champions’ is a new project venture, we have reached the following milestones:

 - We have met with Grace, who is the volunteer coordinator at IRiS, to discuss her preference in relation to the therapy options, as well as providing us with a deeper understanding of what is currently available to the service users.

 - A project name has been decided.

 - Recruitment for Art therapy is complete and we are nearing the end of our recruitment for Creative Writing therapy; the two therapies will be ready to launch in September 2015.

We want to offer the service users at IRiS the chance to partake in activities they may not have been involved in before such as arts & crafts and creative writing; through these therapy sessions we hope to see the service users express themselves in ways they may not have felt they could have before, and to ultimately build relationships with the service users.
