FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Project Aims

The ‘Food for Thought’ project’s primary aim is to ensure ZERO food and food by-product waste on the University of Reading campus. In order to do this we will:

  • Run weekly food orientated workshops and distributing the University’s left-over cold, sealed foodstuffs to the attendees

  • Solve the paper cup wastage problem and use the solution as a social enterprise

  • Raise awareness of how to combat food wastage throughout the University

  • Aim to change Reading’s policies to ensure all wasted food is either recycled by way of liquid fertiliser or donated to people in need.

Once our project is established, we aim to extend the scope to a beneficial community in Reading by establishing a relationship with an existing charity and hosting workshops at their premises.

Project History

Although our project is only a few weeks old, we have already taken great steps towards our goal. We have been granted access to all left-over cold, sealed food stuffs from the university food outlets. Our team membership has increased from three to seven. We have created relationships across the University and are working collaboratively towards our goal of Zero food and food-stuff wastage on campus.
